Bali
Bali is Indonesia’s unofficial “come as you are” island. While the country’s national laws lean conservative (and public queerness is often frowned upon) Bali exists in a different rhythm. Thanks to its Hindu culture, tourism-heavy economy, and international influence, queer travellers often find a surprisingly welcoming experience here.
That said, it’s not Thailand. Same-sex activity is legal, but visibility should still be approached with care, especially outside resort areas or when interacting with government institutions. PDA isn’t common for anyone, so subtlety applies across the board.
Still, in places like Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud, you’ll find plenty of easy-going venues, respectful service, and hotels that have long known how to make LGBTQ+ guests feel at home, even if they don’t say it loudly.

Getting From A to Gay (Or B, or Z...)
Taxis & rideshares – Grab (the local Uber) is widely used and reliable. No issues for LGBTQ+ passengers, though small talk can veer personal so feel free to be vague.
Scooters – The go-to transport in Bali. Rent your own (helmet absolutely required), or use scooter taxis via apps. Same rules apply: practical, not personal.
Walking – In tourist areas, walking is safe but often impractical due to narrow or absent sidewalks. PDA is rare for everyone, not just queer couples.
